The Chanel brand has come under fire for using different make-up styles at the recent Spring-Summer 2022 Haute Couture fashion collection as a part of Paris Fashion Week. The makeup artists intended the black smudged eyeshadow to be a reference to the avant-garde makeup of the 20’s, but the public perceived bruising. ******* bloggers and social media users accused Chanel of romanticizing domestic abuse because nobody saw any avant-garde vibe in black circles on the faces. As a result, they were perplexed: “Why didn’t anyone in the makeup department say, looking at the models: “Hey, they probably got beat up”?”
The dissatisfaction of the public was also caused by Charlotte Casiraghi – granddaughter of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco and Chanel brand ambassador since 2020 – she opened the runway riding her Spanish bay horse Couscous. In theory, this should be a reference to Gabriel Chanel, who loved horseback riding and fashioned trousers so that women could ride in the saddle "like men." But the mood on social media was very different, with many critics saying horses didn’t belong on a fashion set and that the stunt was “absurd” and cruel. The show was compared to a circus, in which animals are also mercilessly used.
By the way, this is not the first scandal associated with Chanel. At the end of last year, the brand was criticized by the public for an unreasonably expensive advent calendar filled with cheap souvenirs and a couple of beauty products. At the beginning of 2019, Chanel also has come under fire after pictures of caged dogs left in one of its London stores were posted on social media.
