Longchamp fall/winter 2020 fashion show took place on the top floor of one of New York's skyscrapers. Models were walking down the runway, bathing in natural light that flowed from the panoramic windows. Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine said she was inspired by the idea of a Parisian in New York City. The lineup is full of 70's references, reimagined for the modern woman. Creating her collection, the designer focused on fashion icons from before – Catherine Deneuve, Romy Schneider and Stephane Audran. These women’s style in the spirit of 70’s, the key point is freedom of expression, is reflected in the collection.

Despite the fact that some clothes in the collection can be traced to the country style, the lineup was created for the residents of big cities who want to look spectacular, without forgetting practicality. Outerwear was particularly strong, like bomber jackets with shearling details that topped off several looks, articulating the brand’s wearable, not too precious ethos. The collection also included leather midi skirts, the creative director was running with for fall, semi-transparent dresses with colored embroidery, shirts with oversized collars, velvet suits and knitted sweaters with prints. The overall palette of the show is muted, but there are also vivid glimpses of ethnic ornaments, items of red and emerald colors.

According to Sophie Delafontaine, a combination of leather and suede symbolizes life force and energy, while femininity of the silhouettes is emphasized by short tops worn over shirts, and wide belts that accentuate the waist.

Delafontaine’s play on proportions was evident in the various iterations of the house’s ‘It’ bag, the Le Pliage—in both micro and oversized versions—that were paired with distinct and versatile separates that convey a sleek femininity. The boots with the silver ball hardware were newsy, but those with the stripe were timeless.
