From February 6 to 13, New York will host Fashion Week, during which prominent designers will present their new collections for the autumn 2020. However, this Fashion Week will be nothing like the previous one. The latest news from the fashion world makes it clear that global changes are taking place in the fashion industry, which can change our view of New York Fashion Week forever.
First of all, several famous American designers refused to present their new collections in New York. Among them, Tommy Hilfiger and Jeremy Scott that will hold fashion shows in London and Paris. They say, that even Ralph Lauren, who has held his shows in New York for over fifty years, is to abandon this tradition.
Tom Ford also changed his mind about presenting the new collection in New York. Instead, the designer will hold a show in Los Angeles just a few days before the Academy Awards. M Missoni followed this example. As for NYFW, we can only look forward to the shows from Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch.
However, there are other changes waiting for us at New York Fashion Week. For example, some designers, including Phillip Lim, gave up the traditional format of runway shows. Instead, Lim organizes the presentation in the format of a home party.
And, sad news doesn’t end there. This year, the Academy Awards ceremony will be held simultaneously with the New York Fashion Week. This means that a lot of Hollywood actors, who are welcomed guests of the shows won’t be able to visit fashion shows. The same goes for star stylists. In a word, the Oscar will steal the spotlight, so NYFW may lose viewers.
If last year, everyone was waiting for the new collections Savage x Fenty by Barbadian singer Rihanna, Tommy Hilfiger and Zendaya’s collaboration, this season the schedule of the New York Fashion Week looks much more modest.
