As we anticipate Grammy or Oscar awards, there are plenty of great red carpet events ahead. One of them took place last night in Hollywood: Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, hosted the 45th annual American Music Awards ceremony which is rightly considered an alternative to Grammy. Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Heidi Klum, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Ciara, Pink, Cary Hart and many others rejoiced the photographers with their perfect sense of style and the audience with their impeccable vocal skills. Some of them went home with precious figurines!

Bruno Mars was the absolute triumphator of the ceremony: he aspired to 8 awards and received 7, including ‘Artist of the Year’, the main one. The singer managed to outrank some fitting rivals, including DJ duo The Chainsmokers, Drake, rap artist Kendrick Lamar and mellifluous Brit Ed Sheeran.
Lady Gaga was honored as ‘Pop/Rock Favorite Female Artist’. Fans about believed the singer traded her singing career for TV, but she managed to surprise the audience once again and made a triumphal comeback outranking both Rihanna and Alessia Cara.
Imagine Dragons four-piece band were honored as ‘Pop/Rock Favorite Band’, while Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee received the ‘Pop/Rock Favorite Song’ award for their single ‘Despasito’ created in collaboration with Justin Bieber. The song topped all the international charts, while the music video became the most-viewed in YouTube history.
Beyonce was honored as ‘Soul/R&B Favorite Female Artist’, while Linkin Park band received the ‘Favorite Alternative Rock Artist’. Not so long ago, the band released a ‘One More Light’ music video in memory of Chester Bennington, Linkin Park lead singer who recently deceased. Niall Horan, Irish singer from One Direction, picked up ‘New Artist of the Year’ award.
Diana Ross received the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award for her contribution to music. By the way, the ceremony was hosted by Diana’s daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross.

Lady Gaga, Niall Horan and Demi Lovato rejoiced the audience with their performances. Pink and Clarkson opened the ceremony with their interpretation of ‘Everybody Hurts’, the hit song of the 90s. Then, Christina Aguilera picked up the torch, she made a tribute to Whitney Houston and the 25th anniversary of ‘The Bodyguard’ movie, singing ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘I’m Every Woman’, ‘I Have Nothing’ and ‘Run To You’.
After a year-long break, Selena Gomez finally gave her fans a chance to see her perform on stage. The singer went platinum blonde, and the audience referred this change of look to the change in the singer’s personal life (recently, Gomez reunited with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber). Selena’s performance was quite explicit: she sang ‘Wolves’ in a mini silk slip dress, all wet, sitting on a car’s capote.
