One of the most successful supermodels of the 90s, Amber Valletta, who appeared on the cover of Vogue many times, has long been a brand ambassador for Karl Lagerfeld. Many of us will remember her hit vegan cactus leather handbag line, released in spring 2021. This week Valletta presented her second collection for Karl Lagerfeld.
The idea that inspired Amber to create models was the concept of the unity of human and nature. The model was born and raised in the Oklahoma countryside and from childhood enjoyed the views of endless fields, dense forests and murmuring streams.
The Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta collection, in soothing beige and ecru tones, features well-fitting faux leather blazers, trousers, shirts and jackets. Organic cotton, poplin and lyocell, a fiber derived from cellulose, were also used as materials.
While modeling, Valletta studied environmental politics at New York University and was passionate with ecology. Now she considers that her mission is bringing these ideas to the big fashion.
The first step was the invention of faux leather made from Mexican cactuses and the launch of the K/Kushion bag collection made from it. The model is confident that the use of this material does not pollute nature: cactuses grow naturally in the desert and do not require watering or chemical treatment.
In 2022, Valletta decided to release clothing also using sustainable materials.
“I hope that our team will achieve great changes in fashion and take on a leadership role. We double check the certification of our fabrics and make sure that all of it are made with the natural materials. The most important thing is the service life of the clothes. If it's not biodegradable, we won't work with it. We think about the world that we will leave to our children," Amber explained.
The Amber Valletta collection will soon be available on the official website of the Karl Lagerfeld brand.
Prices for Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta models range from €89 for T-shirts to €545 for jackets.
