Shot Sage Blue Marilyn was sold on May 10 at Christie's auction for $195 million. It is now owned by art dealer Larry Gagosian.

Initially, the auction house expected to receive $200,000,000 for the painting. Despite the fact that the organizers' expectations were not met, this did not prevent the portrait from becoming the most expensive American work of art of the 20th century, sold publicly.

Images and personal belongings of the famous sex symbol are regularly put up for auction. For example, photographs of young Marilyn, when she was the Norm Jean Doherty, were previously sold at Nate D. Sanders Auctions. Prices started at $800 per shot. The legendary white dress, whose hem swollen piquantly over the subway hood, was bought for almost $5 million.
