The Mattel-branded doll is inspired by transgender actress Laverne Cox (known for her role in Orange Is the New Black). While looking like a girl, the toy is actually a boy - at least that's what the ghj manufacturers claim. The new Barbie is dressed in a dress-transformer, from which you can make several models of clothes. A red corseted evening dress easily transforms into a sparkly silver jumpsuit with stilettos.

"I can't wait for fans to find my doll on store shelves and have the opportunity to add a transgender-inspired Barbie to their collection," says Laverne. According to her, the experience of working on the project was "surreal", the actress says that she still cannot believe in her success.

For years, Cox has spoken out against discrimination against transgender children, and Barbie can show children that "they have hope and the opportunity to be themselves." An unusual toy from the Tribute series from Mattel costs $40, its advertising slogan is the phrase "You can be anything you want!". The release of the toy happened on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the actress on May 29.
