With fashion being cyclical by nature, this SS2020 season is not for the first time in history for the ultra-short shorts to be in the center of the fashion world attention. Originally, the extremely short shorts, or as they are also called "hotpants," emerged as a provocative piece of activewear back in the 40s - 50s. However, they became a fashion trend only in the 1960s and continued gaining mass popularity as an attribute of the everyday style until the 1980s. In the year 2020, hotpants are going back to the stage - in new fabrics, patterns, and colors. The variety of styles chosen by the designers range from the casual denim cutoffs and cozy knit models to more sophisticated leather and glamorous satin designs.
Chanel | Saint Laurent |
It is the time to mention, that black is once again among the trend colors in 2020. For those who would rather stick to the basics, Chanel followed its 'simple little black dress' rule and presented seasonless black cotton-jersey shorts. Gigi Hadid also wears the shorts with an embellished dark blue sweater on top, accessorizing them with a golden chain belt and black opaque tights.
Saint Lauren offers a more provocative design in black leather – which is another trendy material this season. The glittering belted shorts are balanced with a calmer white shirt and a loose fit trench, with high boots emphasizing the total-look.
Alexander Wang
Denim cutoffs are the must-have this summer. Alexander Wang created a ruffled model in a light blue color, which looks very sporty with a wide white belt and an over-sized leather jacket with puffy sleeves and a crop-top underneath.
Salvatore Ferragamo
Knitted shorts are the best alternative for the comfy outfit, reminding the home wear style due to its soft fabric. Salvatore Ferragamo created a simple but at the same time bright combination with a long-sleeve and the shorts in warm peach tones.
Many celebrities have already been enjoying the new collections and we offer you to check out how they chose to mix and match the garments.
Jacquemus
Courtney Kardashian decided to make an original Jacquemus look a bit more tender and edited it with the leg-wrap sandals (which are also a top - pick this season) and an olive clutch. The so-called "3d pocket" leather shorts are in a dreamy light blue color and feature a wrap-around panel with the pockets. Knitted grey top and an over-sized white blazer make the outfit more casual, allowing to wear it daily.
Supermodel Natalia Vodianova completely recreated the Saint Lauren look for the 'Elle Spain.' Perhaps, one of the most formal combinations, it features the famous tuxedo-style black hotpants with the semi-official blue and white shirt on top. The brownish high cowboy-style boots add a bit of more casualness to the look.
Saint Laurent
The only two details that were changed in Vodianova's look are the long gold necklace and the high-waisted position of the shorts, fixed by the black leather belt with the gold buckle.
