Michael Kors joined the list of designers who switched to their schedule for creating and presenting collections. The American designer refused four shows a year and the production of clothes a few months before the start of sales. Michael Kors will be limited to two collections per year - spring-summer and autumn-winter. The brand will also miss New York fashion week this September - the spring-summer 2021 collection will be presented in October or November of this year. Now the company plans to deliver things to stores before the presentation - so manufacturers will have more time to create new models. It is noted that the brand is going to deliver collections to stores gradually, and not at once. According to Michael Kors, this will allow customers to purchase more items from the fall collection, which will be delivered to boutiques in September.
"I have for a long time thought that the fashion calendar needs to change," Kors said in a statement. "It's exciting for me to see the open dialogue within the fashion community about the calendar—from Giorgio Armani to Dries Van Noten to Gucci to YSL to major retailers around the globe—about ways in which we can slow down the process and improve the way we work. We've all had time to reflect and analyze things, and I think many agree that it's time for a new approach for a new era."
Over the past couple of months, many designers have abandoned the usual production plan of their collections in favor of their one. So, at the end of April, it became known that Saint Laurent will miss Fashion Week in Paris and set their schedule of shows. Gucci as well as Off-White later also switched to a new supply calendar, while the Belgian designer Dries Van Noten wrote a letter asking for revising the supply and discount calendar, enlisting the support of a dozen brands and retailers.
